Watch out for the sun… even in winter!

If protecting your skin from the sun has become a reflex for many of us during the summer, few know that protection is also essential in winter to guard against the signs of aging. Some rays can indeed be particularly harmful.

THE GRAPE IN LIGNE DE MIRE

Once the good weather has passed and the gray weather returns, we generally put our sunscreen away in the closet while waiting for the next summer season. However, if in winter, clouds, rain and mist protect us from sunburn and therefore from UVB rays, UVA rays are there. Particularly insidious, these ultraviolet rays pierce the clouds and deteriorate our skin, causing fine lines and brown spots to appear. Especially since in winter, the dermis, because it is less exposed to the sun, is weakened and therefore remains sensitive to premature ageing. It is therefore imperative to apply sunscreen with a high SPF (30 or 50) every day, whether the sky is clear or it is gray.
Obviously, at high altitude, especially if you go skiing in the mountains for example, the application of sun protection is also essential. Reflective surfaces, such as snow or ice, can burn and damage skin as they increase radiation by up to 90%. Also, the higher you go in altitude, the higher the amount of UV will be. Indeed, it climbs by 4% every 300 m: for example, at 3,000 m, it is 40% higher than at sea level.
