Hundreds of strange creatures that resemble prehistoric creatures appeared in a very strange phenomenon in the US state of Arizona in a desert area.
These strange creatures appeared after their eggs hatched in a lake made by rainwater. According to officials of a nearby memorial, who spotted this unique phenomenon, the creatures appeared after monsoon winds and rains in the area.
Three-eyed creature hidden for decades
The tadpole-sized creatures “look like a small horseshoe crab with three eyes,” Lauren Carter, the interpreter at the National Wopatki Monument, told Live Science.
According to the University of Central Michigan, these unique creatures, which have puzzled some, are called “Trios”, and their eggs can remain in a stable state for decades in the desert until enough rain falls to create lakes that provide a good and suitable haven for them to hatch their young and lay their eggs for future generations.
And the scientific magazine noted in its article, which it published about the incident entitled “Hundreds of three-eyed dinosaur shrimps appear after the monsoon in Arizona”, that the appearance of these creatures is so uncommon, that when tourists reported seeing them in a temporary lake filled with rain inside a yard dedicated to celebrations in In the memorial area, the staff did not know what these creatures were and were confused about what to do.
The shape of these creatures, which is scientifically called (dinosaur shrimp), ie dinosaur shrimp, takes the shape of the circular structure surrounded by a small gear.
“After a monsoon in late July, we knew there was water on the football field, but we weren’t expecting anything to live in it,” Carter said. “Then a visitor came and said, ‘Hello, you have little frogs on your football field.’
Reproduce “in a unique way”
And Carter continued, “I took her by the hand and looked at her and said, ‘What is this? I had no idea, but later it turned up as a “Triops” and then I had to look for it.”
These creatures can live up to 90 days, when they are quickly devoured by local birds, as happened in the shallow pond discovered.
These three-eyes usually mate by female-male breeding, but in times of scarcity, they have other means; Where these crustaceans have a very unique feature, they are also hermaphrodites when rare, which means they have both male and female sex organs, and they can perform parthenogenesis, which means that females can produce offspring from unfertilized eggs.
