Al-Marsad newspaper: The US Department of Agriculture decided to approve the use of genetically modified tomatoes, in order to overcome the lack of nutrients.

Scientists said that purple tomatoes last longer than regular tomatoes, and are more beneficial to health, according to CNN.

The researchers believed that modifying the genes of tomatoes, as not just a change in color, but rather to enhance its nutritional quality.

British researchers at the John Innes Center pointed out that the violet color in fresh tomatoes increased levels of anthocyanins, a cancer-fighting antioxidant.
