Watches and Wonders: watchmaking excellence once again exhibited in Geneva

It is an unmissable event for the big names in world watchmaking excellence. “Watches and Wonders” Geneva, formerly known as the “Salon international de la Haute Horlogerie”, is making its physical comeback this year for the first time since the start of the pandemic, while also being available online.

Sustainable approach and design desirability

From 38 exhibitors, Hermès gives pride of place to digital art. Its stand houses a work by the artist Sabrina Ratte. “In this installation, I wanted to evoke the way in which new technologies such as satellite images are changing our perception of time and space,” she explains.

As for brand positioning, “we try to address not one generation, but all generations,” says Laurent Dordet, Managing Director of Hermès Watchmaker. “We create the objects in which we believe and which make us happy,” he said.

Among the major issues on which professionals in this sector are working, innovation, transparency, the circular economy and of course, Sustainable development.

“How we transform our businesses to be more sustainable is just as important as the desirability of a new design,” believes Emmanuel Perrin, vice-president of “Watches and Wonders”.

Responsible Sourcing

One way to meet this sustainable challenge is to acquire raw materials responsibly. H. Moser & Cie.for example, is working in this direction according to its owner and CEO.

“We source, for example, fair trade gold which is more expensive, but we are ready to do so,” he points out. “We are trying to reduce our carbon footprint,” he continues, “It’s something that was driven by our very young team.”

“Watches and Wonders” Geneva 2022 is being held at Palexpo until April 5.
