Wave of resignations: “The power relationship between employees and employers has completely reversed”

“Today, it’s up to the employer to ‘sell’ themselves to candidates!”

How are employers adapting to these radical changes? What are they doing to attract and retain their employees? To answer these questions, we first turn to a sector that is particularly struggling to recruit since the health crisis: the hotel industry. We are welcomed at Martin’s Hotels in Louvain-la-Neuve, where no less than ten vacancies are available. “We are looking for profiles at all levels” explains the Director of Human Resources, Pauline Bernard. “We have vacancies in the dining room, in the kitchen, positions as head of department, valet or chambermaid, reception manager. And some of these offers have been vacant for a long time already!”

We are witnessing a war of talents

For Pauline Bernard, we are witnessing a real war of talents. “It’s really tense. We have to do a lot more to attract than before. We have repositioned ourselves on social networks, we try to attract with things other than the salary itself. The worker is waiting much more from the employer than before. He wants a real package, flexibility, development possibilities, etc.”
