Westchester Malayali Association’s Onaghosa: Celebrating Onam in New York without an Entry Pass

New York : Westchester Malayali Association’s Onaghosa, one of the largest Onaghosas in America, is hosting this year’s Onaghosa on Saturday, September 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the magnificent auditorium of Greenburgh High School. This Onam also has a special feature that it is conducted without an entry pass.

Onam came here with shouts. Onam is a festival that is held as a personal pride in the heart of those who were born as a Malayali, no matter how many times have passed or crossed the seven seas. The Greenburgh High School Auditorium is ready for Onam, with swings, Onamkali, Onam songs and Poovattis, decorated with flowerbeds in an atmosphere filled with flowers.

Westchester Malayalee Association is one of the rare Malayalee organizations to see forty-nine Onam celebrations. The Onam festival that is celebrated every year also creates a feeling that brings back the era of Mavelithampuran. West Chester’s Onam festival is also a meeting place for religious harmony. Every year, the officers of the association take care to make it one of the biggest Onam celebrations in America with innovative art programs and sumptuous food.

Onasadya is loved by young and old people irrespective of caste and religion. Seeing this, Ona has commissioned famous restaurants in New York for the dinner. They are trying their best to make the Onasadya an unforgettable experience in their lives.

The Shikari Melam, which is attended by fifty people, is a highlight of this year’s Onagosh. Similarly, programs are organized to evoke all the emotions of Onam which is called Mega Thiruvathira. This year’s Onam has been organized with many new programs like Chendamela, welcoming Maveli Tampuran with thalapoli, Athapookalam, Tiruvathirakali and Pulikali.

The office bearers of the association are trying to make this year’s Onam an unforgettable Onam celebration in their lives and to impart many beautiful memories to all the family members. President Terencen Thomas, Secretary Sholi Kumbalavelil, Treasurer Alexander Varghese, Vice President Anto Varki, Malayalee, invite all Malayali brothers living in New York to make the Onam celebration a success. Joint Secretary K.G. Janardhanan, Board of Trustees John K Mathew, Coordinator Joy Ittan and Cultural Coordinator Nirish Oommen informed.
