Kottayam: The Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department has issued a bizarre order that the basic salary of LD Clark in the Revenue Department is only Rs 25,100 as against the basic salary fixed by the government.
The error was in the order issued by the Kerala Administrative Tribunal on the complaint that the salary scale of village field assistants in the state should be increased.
As the basic salary of the clerks is 25,100, the order says that if the salaries of the village field assistants are made equal to theirs, the clerks and others will come forward and demand a pay hike and therefore the scale increase cannot be considered.
There are 3,200 Village Field Assistants in 1,666 Village Offices in the State. The basic qualification for this job was revised from Class VII to SSLC. Subsequently, the nature of the work was changed. Subsequently, some approached the tribunal seeking an increase in the salary scale.
