what is this Decathlon electric scooter worth?

2023-05-07 12:00:00

A key player in the electric bicycle sector, Decathlon also has a range of electric scooters under its subsidiary Oxelo. We tested its new generation electric scooter, the R900E.

Oxelo stands out from the competition by offering practical and accessible products. Its R900E range even aims to become the essential companion for small daily trips. Do you want to know what this electric scooter can offer you? We performed a test on the Oxelo R900E and here is our conclusion.

  • Technical characteristics
  • Engine : 250 watts
  • Maximum speed : 25 km/h
  • Charging time : 225 min
  • Autonomy: 25 km

A classic style accompanied by unique concepts

The Oxelo R900E has a fairly classic design. In fact, Decathlon has taken inspiration from existing ranges to offer the best. The Oxelo R900E takes up the look of Xiaomi, but with special little touches.

In fact, this electric scooter is characterized by its wheels of different sizes. Indeed, the front wheel is 10 inches while the rear one is 8 inches puncture-proof. They are complemented by well-fixed, but plastic mudguards.

As soon as the scooter opens or charges, the rear light comes on directly. This model also has a stop light, to alert other road users. On the other hand, during our test, we noticed that the Oxelo R900E does not have turn signals.

A practical electric scooter

It should be noted that the Oxelo R900E is a scooter pliable. We really liked the metal lock folding system. The latter is used to fix the handlebars and the upper part of the mudguard.

As for the handles, they offer the same sensations as those of the Elops bikes. But still, they can be folded. This is an unusual detail in the world of electric scooters.

These characteristics are a major asset since they allow you to store the scooter at home or in cramped places. Furthermore, the Oxelo R900E is rated IPX4. It is suitable for use in the rain and/or on wet floors with water spray.

Not to mention that this electric scooter has a LCD screen quite different from that of its competitors. Upon switching on, a small animated image of the battery charge rate appears and then disappears to make way for the main menu.

This screen allows you to view driving data, but has a slight drawback. In fact, it leans forward, rather than down. Also, during our test, we noticed that the Oxelo R900E handlebar is quite short for tall users.

Great comfort and ease of driving

With its classic design, the engine of this electric scooter resides in its rear wheel. Delivering 430 W in peak, the nominal power is rather 250 W. Its acceleration is correct, but it takes a little time to cross the 20 km/h mark.

In recovery, we found during our test that the Oxelo R900E has limits. In fact, it is rather slow. In addition, impossible to reach the maximum speed in S mode. On a flat road, the maximum speed oscillates between 22 and 23 km/h against 24 km/h downhill. Uphill, difficult to maintain 20 km/h.

The R900E asserts in driving that it is one of the flagships. Its big wheel allows you to overcome road imperfections. Although Decathlon does not put it forward, the Oxelo benefits from suspension. This does not seem very active to us, although it is a response to the stiffness of the tire.

testingOxelo R900E autonomy: limited to 15 km

The Decathlon electric scooter incorporates a battery of 262 Wh. On the manual that accompanies it, it promises 25 km of autonomy. However, during our test, we could not cover the 20 km.

We see today that the battery drains quicklyt. After 2 km, the battery is 90% depleted, and 75% after 4 km. After 10 km, two thirds of the battery is already exhausted. In the end, it is necessary to count between 13 and 15 km. A very good point to note, the electric scooter does not lose power even if the battery is close to 0%. S mode can be used without problems until the end. However, be careful not to get there, at the risk of damaging the battery.

Verdict

Access model, the Oxelo R900E is an entry-level scooter. It incorporates many very practical elements, in particular its foldable handles.

Son folding mechanism proves solid and has a small lock. Although its screen is a bit dated, it displays the necessary driving information, such as the remaining range and the time. The only problem concerns the sloppy finishes, both in terms of the welds of the stems, the slightly wobbly handles and the assembly of the plate.

But on board the scooter, the ergonomic handles combined with the large deck allow you to take full advantage of this model. Its rear engine is suitable for short trips, but it lacks power for steep slopes. Resistant to the risk of punctures, the rigid wheels release strong jolts. Its small battery also offers only about 14 km of autonomy (in maximum S mode), while recharging does not take much time. Indeed, it is done in 3 hours.

To end this test of the Oxelo R900E, it must be said that the great weakness of this Decathlon scooter is above all its price. Indeed, for an entry-level scooter, it costs 500 euros.

  • Folding handle
  • Generous floor
  • Vibrations importantes
  • Limited autonomy
