What Lula da Silva said about the common currency and the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline

President Alberto Fernández received his partner at Casa Rosada Luiz Inacio “Lula” da Silvawho held a joint press conference, where some definitions on economic matters were left.

The Brazilian president referred to the need to establish, via the central banks, a common currency that operates in the region.

Everything that is new must be tried. We cannot in the middle of the 21st century continue doing the same thing that we did in the 20th century. God willing that our economic ministers and the presidents of the central banks have the intelligence to make a leap in quality in our commercial relationship,” da Silva said from the White Room of the Government House.

Balance with Brazil: they warn that in 2022 the numbers were “in the red” and do not improve

According to Da Silva, “Brazil and Argentina carried out a small experience of a common currency in 2008 that was optional. And it did not have the influence we expected. What we are trying now is for our Economy Ministers, each one with their team, to be able to make a foreign trade and transaction proposal between the two countries to have a common currency to be built with much debate and after many meetings”.

In this regard, Alberto Fernández opined that “we don’t know how it would work” a common currency “in our countries or in the region”, but they do know “of foreign currencies and the harmfulness of all that”, and for this reason “I celebrate the vocation of Brazil” to raise this idea.

The Brazilian president also touched on the issue of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline: “I am sure that Brazilian businessmen are interested in the fertilizers that Argentina has, in technological knowledge. If there is interest from businessmen and the government, we will create the conditions to create financing to help the Argentine gas pipeline.”

In the same sense, Alberto Fernández maintained that it is necessary to “quickly try to reach the point of union of Uruguayana and pass gas to Brazil if it needs it. We are both suffering from the decline in Bolivia’s gas production. Both governments understand the importance of public banking.”

The Argentine president also indicated the need “organize an energy framework that guarantees the development of our towns”in addition to highlighting the “possibility that gas from Vaca Muerta reaches Brazil” as well as “electricity from Brazil reaching us.”

“I came back to make good agreements with Argentina. And I apologize for all the rudeness that the former president of Brazil (by Jair Bolsonaro) said about Argentina, who is a genocide for his lack of responsibility during the pandemic,” said the ” Lula” Da Silva.
