Dhe debate about German cruise missiles continues. Within the opposition and also the traffic light government there are vehement supporters of delivering the Taurus to Ukraine. They argue that France and Great Britain have already handed over similar longer-range weapons. This speaks against the Chancellor’s arguments that Germany is becoming a warring party with a delivery and that the conflict threatens to escalate further.
In fact, the Taurus is different from the weapons supplied by the French and British. All three systems – the German Taurus, the French SCALP and the almost identical British Storm Shadow – are cruise missiles that are launched from aircraft. But according to the manufacturer MBDA, the range differs quite significantly: While the models supplied can cover more than 250 kilometers, the Taurus can cover more than 500 – which puts Moscow within its range from the border with Ukraine.
