What really cures depression? (podcast)

When Stromae sings about his depression in “L’enfer”, when he admits having taken antidepressants to be able to get better, he makes millions of people around the world feel guilty. Because’we are still ashamed, today, of being depressed. We feel guilty for being sick, we wrongly think we are weak.

In France, the Covid-19 pandemic has increased the frequency of this mental disorder. According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health, 18% of French people aged 15 or over had a depressive syndrome in September 2022, and 12% had had suicidal thoughts over the past 12 months.

So, faced with this major public health issue, we asked ourselves: how to treat depression? THE antidepressants are they effective? Should we prefer psychotherapies ? But first, what exactly is depression? How to distinguish it from the episodes of sadness, pain, grief that we all go through at some point in our lives? What signs should alert us? And above all, how to get out of it?

To answer all these questions, Aline Perraudin receives the Dr Jerome Palazzolo, psychiatrist, psychotherapist and professor of clinical and medical psychology, author of My bible of CBTs, cognitive and behavioral therapies (Leduc editions).
