When providers will be able to cut it 2024-03-28 06:06:45

Yesterday (26.3.2024), the RAAEF gave a public consultation on the changes to the Electricity and Natural Gas Supply Code based on the proposals of the Ministry of the Interior, where the new regulation for changing electricity supplier is highlighted. According to the proposal, the change of electricity supplier is allowed except in the following cases:

When the provider has sent to the Administrator an order to disable the load meter (stop electricity supply).

When an order to mark the customer as overdue in the relevant Administrator’s system has been submitted and is active from three different providers for the basic category of residential customers and from two different providers for the basic category of non-residential customers.

Those consumers who have debts from January 1, 2020 will be marked with the so-called debt flagging. The suppliers will first offer them the possibility of settling their debts and if this is not possible, then they will enter the DEDDIE system classified as debtors.

Then, after the lapse of 20 days, the supplier will be able to initiate the procedures for the interruption of electricity supply.

The goal of the regulation is to combat the phenomenon of energy tourism, where consumers with debts can constantly change providers, causing a significant “hole” in the electricity market.
