The nerves are particularly fraying at the SK football club, which has had to struggle with a completely flooded sports field again and again – and also in the past week. “You learn to live with it, it’s almost a kind of routine,” emphasized the chairman of the Landesliga West club, Reinhard Wagner, who, after the renewed flooding of the area, works with his club colleagues almost around the clock to clean up is.
“The problem is not only the mud, but also the many earthworms. If the water recedes, they remain on the lawn and dry up,” explained the official, adding: “After that, we need a gardener with a special suction device to at least halfway clear the space again can produce”. And of course that costs money. After all, the current flooding is a piece of cake compared to the flood of the century in 2013. At that time, the entire club premises were completely destroyed.
