You have all noticed: the average price of an Internet subscription has increased significantly in 2023. Our barometer for the month of December validated a 13.8% increase, and an average price of €32.62 per month for an entry fiber subscription of range. So for this new year, check your subscription and your bills: it may be the right time to migrate!
Connection quality and performance
Whether you subscribe to Sosh ‘la Boîte’ or to an Orange Livebox, in both cases you inherit the same modem: a Livebox 5.
In both cases, if this is your first time with fiber optics, installation of the box by a specialized technician at your home will be free. In both cases, the wireless connection from the modem to your connected devices will be and Wi-Fi 5 (ac).
However, Orange has reserved a higher speed: 500 Mb/s both downloading and sending, where Sosh sees its throughput limited to 300 Mb/s (up & down). But rest assured because it’s still three times faster than the best ADSL connection, and allows you to download your evening film in less than a minute.
Let’s compare the services
No notable difference for the telephony component: in both offers, we will spend unlimited calls to all landlines of France and around a hundred international destinations. If that’s enough for you, no need to go any further: Sosh’s dual-play offer will obviously be the more profitable of the two.
Because at Sosh, the TV decoder is offered to rent for €5/month. Nevertheless, l’application TV d’Orange and its 72 channels will be offered free of charge on request, and available on smartphone, laptop, tablet or console, but not on your television.
However, with Orange, you automatically receive a 4K UHD decoder to access the bouquet of 140 Orange channels and replay services from your television. It is delivered on request, and accompanied by a voice remote control with the integrated Alexa assistant, and gives access to 300 hours of recording of your favorite programs. But be careful: you will first have to settle activation fee of 40€ (i.e. the price of 8 months of decoder rental from Sosh).
And the price ?
At Sosh, there is no need for a minimum commitment. And without the TV decoder, the promotional rate of €20.99 for the first 6 months is an excellent deal. But to be completely fair, it is better to compare with the rental of the decoder at €5 per month, which increases the price to €25.99 for the first 6 months, or €1 more than the Livebox!
But there are no activation fees to pay for the decoder, and the final price of the subscription is only €10 more expensive, while the Livebox costs €42.99/month in the long term. In addition, you will have to commit for a minimum of one year.
The calculation is simple: over the first year, it’s ultimately €75 less at Sosh, although with less bandwidth and TV channels. THE First 6 months of subscription to Canal+ offered by Orange on a minimum subscription of one year will they be enough to tip the scales?
