While renovating the kitchen, 400-year-old pictures were revealed!

VeeLuke Budworth, a British citizen, was literally shocked by the treasure he found while renovating his tin kitchen. He lives in Micklegate in the famous city of York, England. A medical researcher at the University of Leeds was renovating the kitchen of his home when he discovered the nearly 400-year-old wall paintings of national importance. Carbon dating of the paintings revealed that they were painted in the 1660s.

Luke Budworth, 29, decided to renovate his kitchen last year. For this, the contractor found some special spaces under the kitchen cupboards during renovations. “They were remnants of the Victorian wall paintings painted in beautiful colours.” Upon further investigation, he learned that his kitchen wall contained scenes from a 1635 book entitled Emblems by the poet Francis Quarles.

He also revealed that the scene depicts a biblical scene where an angel drags a man lying in a cage. Also depicted is a man who appears to be riding a white horse to heaven. Recognizing the historical importance of the images, he contacted Historic England and expressed interest in knowing more about their significance. They then asked him to take large photographs of the murals and keep the murals safely wrapped. Archaeologist Simon Taylor said the wall paintings were a surprising find and that wall paintings are extremely rare for York and are of national importance and special interest.
