White House issues statement on Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia

Atlanta, USA (CNN) – The White House announced its condemnation of the attacks launched by the Houthi group on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, earlier Friday.

“We condemn the Houthi attacks on civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia earlier Friday,” US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in a statement.

He added, “The unjustified Houthi attacks on Aramco’s oil storage facilities in Jeddah, as well as on civilian facilities in Jizan, Najran and Dhahran, are terrorist acts aimed at prolonging the suffering of the Yemeni people.”

He continued, “Friday’s attacks, such as the attacks on water treatment plants and energy infrastructure on March 19 and 20, were clearly facilitated by Iran in violation of UN Security Council resolutions banning arms imports to Yemen.”

He stated, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government have supported many United Nations calls for a ceasefire and de-escalation over the past year, while the Houthis continue to reject these calls and respond with terrorist acts and military attacks, all of which expand the Yemeni conflict and the consequent humanitarian crisis.”

“It is time to end this war and bring relief to the Yemeni people, but this can only happen if the Houthis agree to cooperate with the United Nations and its envoy who is working on a gradual process to de-escalate the conflict,” he said.

“The United States fully stands behind these efforts, and we will continue to fully support our partners in defending their territories from Houthi attacks, and we call on the international community to follow suit,” he stressed.
