WHO: Monkey pox has spread over 18,000 cases… All deaths occurred in Africa

The World Health Organization (WHO) said that the number of cases of monkey pox in 78 countries has exceeded 18,000, and the spread is continuing.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at a press conference held in Geneva on the 27th local time, explaining that “more than 70% of the cases were reported in Europe, and 25% in the Americas.” I did.

Director-General Ghebreyesus added that five deaths from monkey pox have been reported from the African region, and that regarding 10 per cent of cases are hospitalized for treatment.

He also said that 98% of cases of monkey pox detected since May were homosexual, bisexual, and men who had sex with men.

He then advised them to cut back on their sexual partners for the time being to protect themselves.

Monkey smallpox, which was endemic to Africa, began to appear outside of Africa in May.

The number of infected people, which was regarding 3,000 until last month, has increased six-fold now in regarding a month, and the number of infections is increasing rapidly, mainly in Europe. .

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) for monkey pox on the 23rd in order to preemptively respond to the infectious disease.
