In the 80s, a talented musician with long hair and a group of young people decided to change the history of rock, leave their mark and make music a way of life. It didn’t take long for this band called Arena Hash to achieve national fame. However, one day in 1993, Patricio Suárez Vértiz, his brother Pedro Suárez-Vértiz, Arturo Pomar Jr. and Christian Meier decided to continue with their plans separately.

And although it was often believed that they would meet again on stage, this never happened. This probability ended up being ruled out when Pedro Suárez Vértiz decided to leave the stage due to an illness that complicates coordination and diction.

Patricio Suárez Vértiz assured that the band never dissolved, there was only a separation. And although this explanation seems a little confusing, the singer commented that there is a great reason to defend his position.

“Arena Hash never dissolved, it simply took a break that still exists today. Each of us recorded an album and it went well. We never met because everyone was on their tours, in their own world. I think bands usually get together when most of them aren’t doing well. It is common that when a band breaks up, they get back together because, suddenly, none of them are doing well, or only the singer. However, at Arena Hash, the four of us did well. I think that was the reason why we have not met,” he confessed to Infobae Perú.

The 52-year-old singer pointed out that Arena Hash has brought him great satisfaction, for having been a product to which he, along with his group, dedicated a lot of love and effort. However, he confessed that “they fell asleep” when the band decided to “take a break,” because—indeed—he would have liked a reunion.

Arena Hash decided to take a break in 1993, but never got back together.

“We didn’t see it coming; Everything was very fast at that time. During that break, each one went their own way. Getting the band together meant that Christian would have to stop performing, that I would stop my tours, that Pedro would interrupt his recordings, and that Arturo would also do so. It was more difficult to coordinate. Each one was busy with their individual projects and generating separate income. People asked us when we were going to meet, we said ‘next year, next year’, but we never did,” he indicated.

In 2011, Pedro Suárez Vértiz decided to retire from the stage after the illness he suffered from worsened: dysarthria. This made the members of Arena Hash come together more personally, but it also ended up ruling out the reunion that fans of the emblematic band were asking for so much.

Just like his teammates, Patricio Suárez Vértiz decided to make his own way. The artist spent 20 years outside our country, generating music and melodies. Until he decided to return to Peru to visit his family, and why not, analyze the situation.

“The truth is, I don’t even believe it. I don’t know what happened, the designs of God, of life, I don’t know, because I didn’t plan this. I came from the United States to see my brother, my sister, my mother, and suddenly the press began to appear. A businessman hired me for an event and from there the rest is history,” he told Infobae Perú.

Patricio Suárez Vértiz himself confessed that he is surprised. He never imagined, he assures, that after 35 years he would evolve so much, not only on a musical level, but also on screen. That after 20 years of being absent in Peru, his appearance on national television is so strong, where he has allowed the public to get to know him much better, although at first it shocked him.

“I’m going to tell you about my experience on ‘The Great Famous Chef’. When I walked in the first day, I felt totally lost because I’m not an artist, I’m a musician. I didn’t see myself cooking, it’s like watching a soccer player cook, it’s not his thing, so I felt like a fish out of water. The only way to deal with that was to have a sip of rum every morning before going on stage. It’s the truth. I didn’t get drunk, but I did get a little more sleepy,” he revealed.

“That helped me loosen up, my little drink before each program. In the end I realized that people like that, that you be you, you can’t catch people stupid, they know how. There is a very fine line between being a camera thief and looking ridiculous. That line is very invisible. “One thing is that you want to attract attention and look ridiculous,” said Patricio Suárez Vértiz, who during one of the broadcasts of the cooking show did not hesitate to openly annoy Milett Figueroa with Giacomo Bocchio.

For Patricio Suárez Vértiz, the first season of ‘El Gran Chef Famosos’ had one of the best castings, and marked a distance from the following stages. The cooking reality show premiered on May 1, 2023, and Ricardo Rondón, who today is his great friend, was the winner.

“Bombitas (practical jokes) we all threw at each other. It was a hesitation, the success there was the casting, it was very good. They all fit together, you took one out and everything fell apart. It was a great casting, we all love each other very much. We made a nice friendship after that whole program, we continue writing to each other. They brought together 10 cute crazy people,” he explained.

Nowadays, the artist points out that he no longer watches ‘El Gran Chef Famosos’, but he is surprised when people ask him when he will get back together, as they consider him “irreplaceable.”

After her time on ‘El Gran Chef Famosos’, Magaly Medina was invited to be part of her reality show, La Casa de Magaly. Here, the artist – he indicates – had a lot of fun, despite the controversies that have arisen among the inhabitants.

He was present when Andrés Hurtado and Carlos Cacho launched discriminatory jokes against La Uchulú, in addition to witnessing Fiorella Retiz’s crying and her revelations against Aldo Miyashiro.

The singer was cautious in the face of this type of situation. However, he is also the owner of his own opinion, which he has no problem giving when asked.

“Andrés and Carlos Cacho come from a generation where sarcasm tends to be part of the dessert. It turns out that Uchulú is from another generation, who can take it personally and doesn’t like to be criticized, and that’s fine. I think there was a clash of generations, I’m not trying to whitewash anyone. I think none of them were bad, I think it was a misunderstanding, because later they ended up being pinkys. In the end, they ended up together, they have to generate their drama, otherwise it wouldn’t be a reality show,” he said.

The singer stressed that it is important for people to know that Andrés Hurtado on screen is just a character, and off screen he is an ordinary person.

“Andrés Hurtado off camera is a normal person, but once he enters the glamor of his character (he is another). He creates that character that many hate and love. (….) He handles it like that and I respect it. From the moment you enter ‘La Casa de Magaly’, you know that it is a performance, a show. “It’s a reality show, you don’t have to take it personally,” he explained.

He also referred to Fiorella Retiz, whom, he assured, he believes: “She is a mother of a family, she has a son, I don’t think anyone would like to be put on all the networks, for your son to hear all that. It must be very painful. Don’t believe, people also get excited, they fall in love. I don’t put my hands in the fire for anyone, I can make mistakes, too.”

In 2022, news saddened Peru. Diego Bertie died at the age of 54 after falling from the building where he lived. Patricio Suárez Vértiz was one of the people who saw him for the last time. They both recorded together and planned to present it in a show. However, that never happened.

The singer said that this event left a mark on his heart and the best memories of an artist who loved music as much as he did.

“We never got to play live, we never got to show it to the public. We were very happy. It shocked us all. He was a good guy, simple, he stopped on his bicycle or motorbike. (…) He was relaunching his career, he really liked music. This is life; “We cannot control it,” he stated.

“My fans are grandparents and grandchildren,” Patricio Suárez Vértiz told Infobae Perú jokingly, but still being right. He said that it is not in his plans to stop evolving and adapting to what the public currently wants, to know more about the artist and the human side of him. Far from it, stop responding to what your fans want, because in the end “we don’t owe it to them.”

“Now I am going to participate in the Peruvian Family Festival, which will take place from Thursday, September 28 to Sunday, October 1 at the Concha Acústica del Campo de Marte, in the Jesús María district. I like it a lot because it is aimed at the whole family. In my more than 35 years of career, it is a great joy for me to be invited to an event that unites generations, those of Arena Hash and those who I have been winning in these years,” he concluded.
