What does it mean to be a family doctor? Why only 45 of the first 2,000 applicants have chosen Primary Care this year? We chatted about it with Pepa Redínpresident of the Navarre Society of Family and Community Medicine.
Dr. Redín has not hesitated to launch a campaign to encourage young people to choose this specialty, “we started with a congress that we held in Iruñea and we will end in Donostia to encourage young people to choose us.”
She, like her mother, was clear that she would be a family doctor, and she stresses that “the relationship you build with patients compensates you for all the negative, one of our main weapons is getting to know the patient and their family, you become a person’s doctor, we go to that familiar and emotional point, from which we can accompany and care”.
He recognizes that people from rural areas are becoming second-class citizens, for which he claims that “if we want to keep our towns as they are, we have to bet that they have quality services.”
