Why did the Royals sign Jackie Bradley Jr. for the 2023 season?

The Kansas City Royals signed outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. to a minor league contract that will allow him to show up in spring training and fight for a spot with the big team.

Bradley Jr., Gold Glove winner and All-Star Game invitee, is coming off a .203/.255/.311 offensive line with 23 doubles and 38 RBIs in 2022 between the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays .

His role, initially, will be as an outfield substitute and his addition comes after the trade that brought Michael A. Taylor to the Minnesota Twins.

Bradley Jr. is a renowned defensive outfielder who won the 2018 World Series and who with 10 years of Major League experience hopes to help in a season that will continue the rebuilding of the Royals.

For the former Red Sox player, this deal allows him to remain active in the majors after being one of the few reliable free agents left on the market.

Bradley Jr.’s best MLB season was 2016, when he posted a .267/.349/.486 offensive line with 30 doubles, 26 home runs and 87 RBIs.
