Mr. Suleiman

Egyptian artist from Nubia

Sayed Suleiman, who was mentioned by the father of Yasmine Sabry, is an Egyptian artist from Nubia, born in 1901, and died more than 40 years ago, after he came to Cairo and presented the art of monologue.

Likewise, the artist Yasmine Sabry did not mention him in any television interview before, but last year she spoke about the departure of her grandmother to her mother, who considered her her second mother, and called her sad words, and she mentioned in her speech that her name is “Dignity of Mr. Suleiman”.

Which confirms the story that her father mentioned that the grandfather of Yasmine Sabry’s mother is the Nubian artist Sayed Suleiman, the artist who worked in silent cinema and a number of theater groups, including the Najib Al-Rihani Troupe.

The reason behind censorship of artistic works

He was a major reason for the emergence of the so-called censorship of artistic works, where he wrote an article for the Egyptian magazine Al-Kawakib in 1952 entitled “The monologue that created censorship”, in which he indicated that in 1927 he was presenting a monologue on the “Rawd Al-Faraj” theater.

Also, his monologue was called “Sheikh Al-Ayek”, and he was wearing some clothes for the monologue in which he faces the phenomenon of the opposite, but the monologue’s words caused the anger of the Al-Azhar men.

At that time, many articles appeared attacking the monologue, and indeed she submitted many communications to the Ministry of the Interior, which eventually sent him a warning, asking him not to submit any monologues until after her words were presented to censorship, to show the concept of censorship of artistic works in Egypt.

Sayed Suleiman’s cinematic debut came in 1928 when he participated in the movie “Al-Bahr Behdhak Leh”. During his career, he presented nearly 40 works of art, and he was always assigned the role of “Safarji” in a number of films, and he left our world in 1981.
