The veins have the job of carrying and circulating blood throughout the body, but if your veins become visible and you can’t figure out why this is happening, don’t worry.

Prominent veins can sometimes tell us about some health problems, but in many cases, they have natural causes that are not dangerous to your health, according to the “brightside” website.

1. Natural for your skin type

People with fair skin have more prominent veins than others, and thin skin may also be the cause. As we age, the layer of subcutaneous fat becomes thinner which is why older adults often have prominent veins on their hands, legs and other parts of the body. Besides, some people’s veins are naturally located close to the surface of their skin.

2. After exercise

The appearance of veins during exercise is normal. When you exercise, your veins bulge towards the surface of the skin, making them visible. After exercise, your muscles contract and your veins become less visible.

3. Many women notice the appearance of veins during pregnancy

Visible veins is a problem that many pregnant women face and is nothing to worry about. The blood volume of a pregnant woman is higher than that of a non-pregnant woman, and the veins are trying to keep up with this increased amount of blood. The network of blood vessels works overtime to move the increased volume of blood around the woman’s body to nourish the fetus. If you’ve had varicose veins during pregnancy, but you haven’t had them before, they will likely go away after giving birth.

4. If you have low body fat

Low body fat may also be a reason for your veins to appear. Thin people have a thin layer of fat under their skin and this thin layer of fat cannot completely cover the veins, making them more prominent.

5. There are cases when prominent veins are a reason to visit a doctor

In many cases, prominent veins are normal and healthy and nothing to worry about. However, if the popped veins are accompanied by other symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, ulcers near the veins, or swollen veins, you should see a doctor.

These symptoms may be caused by health problems such as varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, and venous diseases, and should not be ignored.
