Dr. Jorge Enrique Bayter Marín, better known as Dr. Bayter, has become a well-known face on social networks, especially on the TikTok platform, where he has a community of more than 3.6 million followers.

His particular style has caused thousands of people to fraternize with his personality and recommendations, however, it has also motivated others to criticize him and question his knowledge on nutrition.

“When I say that such food is shit…, it has to do with what that food does to me. That food, if it clogs my arteries, if it causes heart attacks, if it gives me cancer, well, how else can I call it. So, that’s when people get the message,” he explained.

Of course, the way in which Dr. Bayter refers to certain foods is not without attention. However, he also has an explanation and it has to do, precisely, with his origins.

“Why do I say sh…? I was born in El Banco, Magdalena, everything is shit there… (…). I returned to my origins. Before, he was a normal doctor, with a jacket, tie, calm, until the pandemic arrived. People understood that they are dying, something is happening, people understood the power of health in a pandemic and that is when the message goes viral, ”he added.

Faced with the debate on what to eat and what to avoid, according to Dr. Bayter’s reading, one of the problems is that people prefer to take medicines than structure a diet “to heal”.

In this line, he delved into the field of metabolic disease and synthesized the topic in a simple look: “what I put in my mouth makes me healthy or sick.”

“One does not eat to give pleasure to 1% of the body, which is the tongue, while damaging 99%. That cannot be so. When I eat, I do it to give life to my body (…). Today we have become disease machines,” she asserted.

Dr. Bayter shared alarming figures: currently, 65% of the world population is obese, there are 40% hypertensive, 1.6 billion adults with prediabetes and 600 million diabetic people. These are metabolic diseases that, as he defends, can be prevented with care in food.

“If I continue to eat as everyone tells me, eat 60% of what you eat in carbohydrates: potatoes, cassava, plantains, eat fiber, eat grains. We are perpetuating the disease. (…) It is impossible for me as a doctor to receive a diabetic and I continue to send him carbohydrates, knowing that I can reverse this disease, how? Well, leaving what made me sick, applying what Hippocrates says,” said Dr. Bayter.

For Dr. Bayter, today the world lives in the age of medicines. Moreover, he criticized that health professionals today have limited themselves to prescribing medicines instead of assigning effective treatments.

“This is not a matter of taking a drug, it is a matter of whether I want to reverse my disease, I must do what Hippocrates says and stop what made me sick. What made me sick is that, the food that they told us was natural, the food that they send us to eat at 60%. (…) People don’t hate Dr. Bayter; People hate that they take away what they like, the corn arepita, the plantain arepita, the yuca arepita, they want to eat pork rinds, but they want me to eat it with yuca. So, that’s when a disruptive message that you don’t like comes in, ”he said.

Dr. Bayter also reflected on death and disease and added that they make up a cruel reality, so he chose not to soften his message.

“People believe that cancer is a disease that happened to them. Today, oncologists know that 90% of cancers are metabolic, that is, a by-product of eating food processed with chemicals, eating hams, sausages that add chemicals, eating things with nitrates. People do not understand the power of a food to cause cancer (…). We are talking about how I can prevent cancer, why wait for it to fight against it, if I can prevent it?” Dr. Bayter summarized.
