As the cost of living continues to rise, reuse is more relevant than ever for many families. Sophie Gagnon, of the Thrift store Why Not of Dolbeau-Mistassini, has made it a matter of value for more than 14 years.

“Before, people had several prejudices towards thrift stores, but fortunately, the mentality has changed. They are starting to be more open-minded and I can feel that in my clientele. People need to stop thinking these are used clothes, I have some pieces that have never been used,” she says.

The store located on Wallberg Boulevard offers a wide range of products. From clothes for adults, to crockery sets, not forgetting all the articles for children. Considering the voluminous quantity of articles offered, two floors are necessary to expose them.

Although she has been in business for almost 15 years, Sophie Gagnon does not lose sight of the reasons why she decided to launch her second-hand clothing store.

“I know my regular customers and when these people come to visit me and tell me at the checkout that they don’t have the money, I sometimes give them the items. Do not forget that my goal is above all to help people. »

stand out

With the presence of several competitors, the arrival of many resale sites on the Internet or with online purchases, thrift stores must redouble their efforts to stay in the race. For Sophie Gagnon, you have to know how to find ways to stand out.

“My retro clothing corner is in high demand. I have several clients from Quebec who come up here expressly to come and buy my pieces. Otherwise, my customers are very loyal and I thank them for the support they give me. »

Pay it forward

Sophie Gagnon recently received a donation of around 30 wedding dresses and ball gowns from a boutique that was closing its doors. In order to give back, the owner of the Thrift store Why Not will donate all profits from the sale of these items to Maison Colombe-Veilleux.
