Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport has secured a $1 million federal grant to pursue new nonstop air service connecting south-central Kansas directly to an East Coast hub. Awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program, the funding marks a step forward in regional aviation development as local administrators target key metropolitan markets.

According to an official Sept. 18 news release from the facility, airport leadership is focusing its target markets heavily on major East Coast destinations, specifically evaluating Charlotte Douglas International Airport, as well as New York City facilities including John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport, as reported by the Wichita Eagle.
