200 euros per household are transferred directly to the account. Application possible from July 17, 2023.

Vienna (OTS) – In order to support the people of Vienna in coping with inflation, the City of Vienna is providing around 140 million euros as a Vienna Housing Bonus 23. This housing bonus is paid out per household in the amount of 200 euros. The application can be submitted online from July 17, 2023. Around 700,000 Viennese households are eligible – that is more than two thirds of all Viennese households.

“Austria still has one of the highest inflation rates in the entire euro area. That’s why we continue to give the Viennese a helping hand. In the last state parliament, we put together three packages that will support the people of Vienna in coping with the increased housing costs. It goes well into medium-sized businesses and around 700,000 households can be sure that we will help again quickly and easily with 200 euros each. This is not only a masterpiece of our administration, but also a commitment: We are there when things get tight and for as long as it is necessary.”, says City Councilor Peter Hacker.

“We support the Viennese population with the processing of the Vienna housing bonus in an uncomplicated and fast manner. As in the recent past, we offer a very simple and short online application as well as extensive support from around 80 partner organizations and our service hotline. We are aiming for a payment for hundreds of thousands of Viennese households a few days after the application,” explains Agnes Berlakovich, head of the Department for Social Affairs, Social and Health Law of the City of Vienna.

This is how the Viennese come to the Vienna Housing Bonus 23

The Wiener Wohnbonus 23 is a grant from the City of Vienna. Between July 12 and July 21, 2023, the City of Vienna will send an information letter to every address in Vienna where one or more people have registered their main residence as of June 28, 2023. The letter contains an individual password that is required for the online application. Persons who are unable to submit an online application themselves – and who cannot do so through family and friends – can contact the service hotline of the Department of Social Affairs, Social Law and Health Law of the City of Vienna at + 43 1 4000 8040 (Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm).

For a one-person household, the income limit of EUR 40,000 gross applies for the year 2022. For a multi-person household, the total income limit of EUR 100,000 gross applies for the year 2022. The Viennese housing bonus is 23 per address 200 euros paid once to the applicant. The grant will be transferred to the account specified in the online application or paid out by postal order. The online application is automatically processed immediately. The housing bonus is already in the account within a few days. The housing bonus can be applied for up to and including September 30, 2023.

Note: For the Wiener Wohnbonus 23, the year 2022 is used for the income limit and not the year 2021 as with the energy bonus. Since the Wiener Wohnbonus 23 is also a newly created service, there can be no automatic payment like the Wiener Energiebonus 23 for these two reasons. Therefore, anyone who meets the above criteria must submit a new claim, even if they have already received both energy bonuses.

The funding guideline and the online income assistant provide supportive information when assessing your own income – and thus the possibility of applying www.wien.gv.at/wohnbonus23

Applying online is a challenge, especially for older people who are not computer-savvy. As usual, various organizations provide physical support here. A list of the cooperating institutions can be found online: https://www.wien.gv.at/gesundheit/strukturen/gesundheitsrecht/ahs-info/kooperationspartner-wohnbonus.html

So far, packages worth around 530 million euros have been put together to help the people of Vienna cope with inflation

The consumer survey by Statistics Austria clearly shows that people with low incomes have to spend more than 50 percent of their expenses on housing, water or energy, while the general Vienna average is around 30 percent. With increases of 12 to 15 percent, this expenditure is particularly hard hit by the current price increases and this hits people on low incomes particularly hard. However, inflation is also hitting people with middle incomes hard, which is why the City of Vienna has decided to create a support service for Wiener Wohnbonus 23 that extends far into medium-sized businesses. So far, a total of seven support packages with a volume of around 530 million euros have been put together, which have either already been paid out in full or can still be applied for.

A single mother who only works part-time due to her care responsibilities and therefore has to top up her minimum income has been hit particularly hard by inflation. In the past twelve months, the City of Vienna has supported her several times in coping with the increased costs for housing and energy. She received around 1,200 euros from the support paid out to date and will receive at least 680 euros from the City of Vienna for future support payments.
