The now 38-year-old has now produced unpleasant headlines in his German homeland: According to consistent media reports, Pliquett initially chased his wife and her lover by car in Hamburg.
When the lovers stopped at around 12:30 a.m., Pliquett is said to have opened the Smart’s car door. The woman called out to her boyfriend to run away so nothing would happen to him. Pliquett allegedly dragged his wife out of the car and took her purse and car keys. He locked the woman’s Smart car and then drove away in his own car.
The 27-year-old’s friend alerted the police, who finally brought Pliquett to task by phone. An investigation was initiated against the former goalkeeper, who ran several sex shops and a bar in Hamburg after his career. He is presumed innocent.
