By midnight, the flames had advanced to within a few hundred meters of Luglon, a village nestled deep in the regional pine canopy. Thick, opaque smoke blanketed the community by Friday morning, obscuring roads and testing the resolve of residents and emergency responders alike. “We protected the houses. Everything held,” a firefighter told one local resident, confirming that quick defensive maneuvers successfully prevented any structural losses.

“The next fifteen hours will be decisive,” prefect Gilles Clavreul told reporters, highlighting the precarious nature of the ongoing firefighting operations.
While ground crews reported that the forward momentum of the fire has slowed, officials remain deeply concerned about erratic flare-ups driven by rising afternoon temperatures.
