Finnish researchers identifiedthat willow bark extract is effective against viruses.

To prepare it, experts collected willow branches, cut the bark, froze, then finely chopped and poured hot water. This is how samples were obtained that were subsequently tested on enteroviruses and coronaviruses.
Experts have found out how long-lasting the effect of this drug is and how well it blocks the activity of viruses.
It turned out that the extract provided reliable protection of cells from infection without damaging them. Experiments that were carried out with coronavirus samples demonstrated that, despite the ability of this virus to penetrate cells, when they are treated with the extract, it loses the ability to reproduce.
Scientists have found that this product has an effect on the surface of viruses. The enveloped coronaviruses collapsed, and the non-enveloped enteroviruses were unable to release their genome.
In the future, it will be necessary to find out which particular substance in the extract has such a strong effect.
