Willy Demeyer seeks the filing of a motion of no confidence against Pierre Stassart

The mayor of Liège Willy Demeyer announced on Sunday that he had not registered the resignation of the alderman Pierre Stassart requested at the end of December. He therefore wants a motion of no confidence to be tabled.

The mayor “officially solicits the two groups of the municipal majority, PS and MR for Liège, in favor of filing a motion of no confidence. This, in order to be admissible, must mention the name of the member of the Municipal Council proposed as a new member of the College.“, specifies Willy Demeyer in a press release.

Upon receipt of the motion, the mayor will convene the College for the emergency convocation of a special municipal council.

On December 14, the Alderman for Public Instruction and Early Childhood, Pierre Stassart, was sentenced by the Liège Criminal Court, for illegal taking of interest for the benefit of his ex-partner, to a sentence of one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 16,000 euros, half suspended. The person concerned immediately announced his intention to appeal.

His powers as an alderman have since been transferred to Jean-Pierre Hupkens.
