Microsoft confirms various issues with its Windows 10 cumulative update KB5018410. It is intended for all PCs under Windows 10 20H2, 21H1 or 21H2.
Published as part of a Patch Tuesday (October 2022), it closes a total of 64 security vulnerabilities, 9 of which are critical. These affect Hyper-V (CVE-2022-37979), Microsoft’s Cryptographic Application Programming Interface (CVE-2022-34689) and PPTP aka Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (CVE-2022-22035, CVE-2022 -30198, CVE-2022-33634, CVE-2022-24504, CVE-2022-41081, CVE-2022-38000, CVE-2022-38047.)
Installing it upgrades the operating system to version 19042.2130, 19043.2130 and 19044.2130. These numbers are a way to make sure everything went well. You can find it by running winver.exe in Run (WIN+R). Unfortunately, not everything goes as planned. Microsoft announces that bugs may appear over the weeks ranging from problems displaying certain elements to PC instability.

In detail, the giant mentions flashing problems with the Weather or Interests Widgets and in the worst case Windows Explorer or the taskbar may stop responding. Also it is possible that applications like Word or Excel stop responding if they are open when the problem occurs.
A simple restart of the PC can solve the situation but there is nothing certain. The good news is that Microsoft has to find a solution through its Known Issue Rollback system. Users therefore have nothing to do at this time. The firm explains
This issue is resolved using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). KIRs are applied to most consumer (home) and unmanaged devices without requiring manual action. Please note that the resolution may take up to 24 hours to automatically propagate to these devices. Restarting your Windows device may help the resolution apply faster.
In the meantime, the giant is working on a complete fix. However, there is no specific date.
