Windows 11 and KB5014019, a compatibility issue appears with Trend Micro

Unfortunately it seems that the devices on which KB5014019 has been deployed are experiencing problems. Compatibility issues with Trend Micro products have appeared.

In a recent technical support, the firm explains

Trend Micro is aware of a compatibility issue between the User Mode Hooking (UMH) component of several Trend Micro endpoint solutions and the latest Microsoft Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 optional preview patches (KB5014019) released on May 24 2022.

The UMH component used by several Trend Micro endpoint and server protection products is responsible for some advanced features such as ransomware protection.

Trend Micro is aware of an issue where customers who apply the Microsoft Windows 11 or Windows 2022 optional preview patches (KB5014019) and reboot then find the Trend Micro UmH driver crashes.

Trend Micro adds that its teams are working on a fix. At the moment we have no precise timetable. The goal, however, is to release it before the next Patch Tuesday when the content of KB5014019 will roll out automatically.

Trend Micro is currently investigating this issue in more detail in order to resolve it before the optional Windows patch becomes mandatory. Customers who have already applied the optional Windows patch can either temporarily uninstall the patch or contact Trend micro support for further assistance on a UMH debug module.

As we pointed out KB5014019 is an optional cumulative update that is not automatically downloaded and installed.
