Windows 11 and the taskbar, what are the new features planned by Microsoft?

Microsoft announced a major update for Windows 11 in February. The latest build released through the Windows Insider program unveils some of the biggest improvements and new features.

On the occasion of the Weekend Redmond released a new Windows 11 cumulative update, KB5010414. It is offered to PCs registered on the Beta or Release Preview channels of the Insider program. We are therefore not in a “spirit” of discovery but in a “final” test phase before a general public deployment.

It allows the operating system to upgrade to version 22000.256. We are entitled to many bug fixes and performance improvements. Microsoft is also attacking the most important element of the interface, the taskbar. It evolves and grows richer.

Windows 11 and the taskbar

We have for example the display of the clock and the date on other monitors if a multi-screen configuration is detected. The weather module now offers content on the left side of the taskbar if icon centering is used. Thus, when hovered over with the mouse, the Widgets panel appears on the left side and disappears as soon as the area is no longer hovered over.

Microsoft allows quick sharing of open app windows directly from your taskbar during a Microsoft Teams call. We also have bug fixes, one of which addresses the issue of incorrect tooltips. They appear in a blank area of the taskbar after hovering over other icons such as battery, volume, or Wi-Fi.

Added to this is a quick function to mute and unmute the audio during a Teams call. On this subject Redmond adds

“We’ve added the ability to instantly mute and unmute a Microsoft Teams call from your taskbar. During a call, an active microphone icon will appear so you can easily mute the sound without having to return to the Microsoft Teams call window.

Regarding the kickoff of this big Windows 11 update, we know that it is scheduled for February. Microsoft, however, did not specify a date.
