Windows 11, Microsoft introduces RGB management

RGB has invaded our PCs in a few years. This technology now affects many components and peripherals. This richness is however accompanied by a multitude of software signed by different brands.

It is therefore necessary to juggle between the utilities while trying to understand in detail their operation in order to set up renderings and complex and synchronized effects. Faced with this situation where each actor tries to pull the conversion to itself, Microsoft is ready to standardize the control of RGB lighting.

Windows 11 build 25295, a Lighting page appears

A first approach is offered through a recent build of Windows 11. Settings offers a customization page named Lighting. It attempts to list all hardware that offers customizable lighting, whether RGB or single-color.

Options allow you to adjust the brightness, colors and lighting presets. It is also possible to coordinate the rendering and that of the interface of Windows and applications. Ambient lighting is thus possible.

This “standardized” RGB control should significantly reduce memory usage compared to running various different branded apps in the background. This new feature is offered through a Windows Insider program via build 25295 of Windows 11.
