According to multiple user reports on Windows Feedback Hub, driver updates in Windows 11 are failing and displaying error code “0x80070103”. This behavior is occurring in the stable builds of Windows 11, i.e. those that are made available to the general public. There are also comments that cite other error codes related to the mentioned problem, but the most common one is the one we quote.

A user on Feedback Hub says:

All Channels…Dev…Beta…Release Preview is throwing this error at me. Come on, doesn’t Microsoft have QA checks before releasing stuff? Looks like you messed up a few systems with this error!

Another commented saying:

22621.1265 on a Dell Precision Tower 3630. Bombed this month by 9 “extensions” (mostly Intel, Realtek and a Dell item) that fail with this HRESULT.

There was also a user who says he had the same problem with an HP hardware:

The original HP driver (not sure which driver is needed: mouse pad, touch, pen?) does not support Windows 11 and refuses to install. The issue remains unresolved after upgrading to version 22H2 (OS build 22623.1095). This is an HP laptop running Windows 11 Pro.

The WindowsLatest website noticed that a Microsoft employee explained about the “0x80070103” error related to drivers by saying:

It is showing this error because it is trying to install something that is already installed. Aside from showing the error message, this shouldn’t affect your overall usage.

If you were unable to install the latest drivers on your computer, don’t worry, they will continue to work without any issues. For this reason Microsoft says users can safely ignore the error.
