The Disney studio will release its Christmas film in November, a musical comedy imagined to coincide with its hundredth anniversary.

Wish – Will Asha and the Lucky Star, the new Disney Christmas, be the new Frozen? This fantastical tale, with its blend of magic and catchy songs, seems to have all the ingredients to replicate the worldwide success of the story of Anna and Elsa.

Imagined on the occasion of Disney’s hundredth anniversary, Wish – Asha and the Lucky Star was written by Jennifer Lee, the co-director of Frozen. His co-director Chris Buck is directing the film with Fawn Veerasunthorn, known for her work on Raya and the Last Dragon.

Wish – Asha and the Lucky Star takes place in Rosas, a fantasy kingdom where any wish can be granted, as long as it is validated by King Magnifico. In a moment of despair, young Asha sends a wish to the stars which will be answered by a cosmic force: a small ball of infinite energy named Star.

7 new unreleased songs

Together, Star and Asha will face the most formidable of enemies, King Magnifico, and prove that the wish of a determined person, combined with the magic of the stars, can truly produce miracles. Seven new songs written and composed by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice were composed especially for the film.

While waiting for the release on November 29, Disney has unveiled a trailer for Wish – Asha and the Lucky Star. This release will be accompanied in theaters by Once Upon a Studio, a moving short film paying tribute to Disney heroes and heroines.

Since the start of the pandemic, Disney Animation has struggled to regain its dominant place at the box office. Despite the success of Frozen 2 in 2019, the studio’s latest productions – Raya and the Last Dragon, Encanto: The Fantastic Madrigal Family, Avalonia, the Strange Journey – were commercial failures.
