Have you ever wondered what famous historical figures like Nefertiti and Cleopatra look like in real life?
This is the question that Dutch artist Bas Otroek has tried to answer, using artificial intelligence technology, to present astonishingly realistic portraits of famous historical figures from ancient Egypt, the gods of Greece and the Renaissance in Europe.
According to mymodernmet, Otterwick uploaded several references and information to the character he wanted to draw a realistic portrait of, into an AI program.
The second step is to make small adjustments to the program until you are satisfied with the result. These deep learning networks “are trained on thousands of photographs of human faces, and they are able to create semi-realistic people from scratch,” says Otterwick.
“I think the human face hasn’t changed drastically over the millennia and aside from the hairstyles and make-up, people who lived long ago may have looked a lot like us, but we’re used to seeing them in often distorted drawings of ancient art forms that existed before Long period of invention of photography.
