Long a flagship series of the platform, the horrific show will soon have a first spin-off in a rather surprising formula.
Thanks to the website What’s on Netflixwe learn today that the first spin-off project of the series flagship of the Duffer brothers would already be on the way. Soon two years after the first rumors, journalist Kasey Moore explains that a synopsis, admittedly still thin, already gives a taste of the nature of this animated version: ” an encounter with the Upside Down evolves into a grand adventure for video game-loving twin brothers in the outskirts of Tokyo“. The duration of this mini-series Stranger Things would be approximately six hours, but it is still unknown how many episodes will emanate from it.

The change of place, while keeping the era dear to the two creators, will coincide with the birth certificate of video games in one of its favorite countries, Japan. It’s hard to imagine a better place to continue deploying the numerous references to the 80s, this time in a context full of pixels, arcade cabinets and antique consoles. An ideal medium for accessing other universes, including the dreaded Upside Down.
The animated series format will also expand the Duffer brothers’ portfolio. The two men are already working on other Netflix projectsas the manga adaptation Death Note in live action or from the novel by Peter Straub and Stephen King And the Talisman serial.

As a reminder, the series Stranger Things has long held the top spot of Netflix’s most viewed and popular series. Only a foreign production had so far managed to do better, Squid Game. More recently, the Duffer Brothers show lost its English-language crown as well, for the benefit of Wednesday, which arrived like a tornado on the SVoD platform with immediate success. It is therefore undoubtedly the ideal time to remember the good memories of their fans, while waiting for the fifth and final season, which should not be released before 2024.
