“Without certain facts of the match, we could win”

Felice Mazzù was really not happy with the refereeing during Union-Ostende, and especially with the “phantom” goal, refused to Teddy Teuma.

Did Teddy Teuma’s strike cross the line on the hour mark? The images tend to say yes but without certainty, and the referee, Mr D’hondt, did not have a clear view of the phase. As for VAR, they failed to draw the line clearly and therefore decided nothing. Felice Mazzù was freezing at Eleven’s microphone, after he exploded in anger at the referee. “What I told him? That he had a good game (ironical smile). You will see the images yourselves. I saw them, but I will not say anything and will keep my conclusions to myself”, says the manager unionist.

On the sporting level, Mazzù was more talkative and rather lucid about the shortcomings of his team. “We lacked character and lost points because of our first half. Ostend were better than us before the break. But afterwards, without game facts, we could and should have won this match”, regrets- he. “Mitoma brought verticality and additional technical elements. We hardly saw Ostend anymore in the second half. But we lost two points because of the waste. We had the situations to score more than one goal… and we did it, but it was not granted”.
