Zeki’s AI dataset is unique in the world – it includes more than 133,000 people and over 2 million unique data points. In this report Women in AI 2024 Zeki evaluated more than 33,000 women from 109 countries who study or work at over 4,300 universities or are employed by over 42,000 companies or organizations worldwide.

These precise, data-driven insights focus on where and how to find, recruit and retain top women in AI. Among the most important results of the free report belong:

Leaving quickly – Women work in large companies but leave quickly. Over 60% of new employees leave the Big Five (Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta and Microsoft) in the first two years. Advancement Gap – Women receive 30% less visibility and recognition than peers over the course of their careers, representing a critical loss of potential in the AI field. Highest Hiring Rate – Companies hiring more women than the industry average (22%) include Intuit (41%), ETS AI Labs (38%) and Bayer (34%). Attractiveness of universities – U.S. universities are increasingly educating top women in AI, but only about 22% of scientists and engineers in major U.S. university AI labs are women. Preference for small companies – Top women in AI are finding continuity and more female colleagues in smaller companies and are increasingly choosing to work in smaller groups on issues that are important to them. Industry Attractiveness – The healthcare and consulting industry, which includes companies such as MD Anderson Cancer Center, Roche, Booz Allen Hamilton and Boston Consulting Group, is outperforming other industries in attracting top female talent, with triple-digit growth over the past 10 years.
