World Badminton Championships; Prannoy defeats Lakshya Sen; Saina Nehwal falls in the pre-quarters

Tokyo: HS Prannoy defeats Commonwealth Games gold medalist Laksha Sen in World Badminton Championship. Prannoy came back from losing the first game in men’s singles to defeat Lakshya Sen. Score 17-21, 21-16, 21-17.

Prannoy’s victory came after a 75-minute long battle. This is the second time in a row that Lakshya Sen has been defeated by a Malayali player. India’s Saina Nehwal tripped in the pre-quarters. Saina fell in front of the Thai player with the score of 17-21, 21-16, 13-21.

Saina’s progress was blocked by Thailand’s Busanan. With this, when they came face to face, the Thai player took the number of wins against Saina to five. Saina won three times against Busanan.

It is the first time India has entered the doubles quarter-finals at the World Badminton Championship. It is also special that two Indian teams have reached the quarters. The pair of Arjun-Kapila and Chirag Shetty-Ranki Reddy made it to the quarters.
