Marrit Steenbergen has qualified third for the semi-finals in the 200 meter individual medley. She won her heat at the World Long Course Swimming Championships in Doha in a time of 2.11.45.
American Kate Douglass and Canadian Sydeny Pickrem swam a little faster.
Steenbergen expects the battle for the medals to be “very exciting”. “Douglass stands apart from the rest, but after that there are five to six swimmers who can swim 2.09. For myself, I hope that a personal record is possible,” said Steenbergen, who set her Dutch record at 2.09.13 last April.
It’s the first day of the world championships. The semi-final is scheduled for 5 p.m.
