Young people from Campo Grande defend Brazil in the world robotics championship

A select group of Elementary and High School students from Colégio Marista Alexander Fleming, in Campo Grande, are regarding to cross the Atlantic Ocean to represent Brazil in a world robotics competition. The young people will travel to Portugal on the 19th to participate in the 16th edition of RoboParty World Robotics Championship, which will take place from March 21st to 23rd, in the Braga region, with support from the prestigious University of Minho.

Initially, students will receive training in electronics, robot programming, mechanical construction, electronic board assembly, component welding and sensor reading. Afterwards, the Brazilian team will assemble their own robot using a robotic kit developed by the Portuguese company botnroll.com and the University of Minho.

“It will be a very important event for our students to learn and exchange knowledge with other young people from around the world. It’s an opportunity to learn regarding international competitions and show in practice what they know”, says Tânia Moreira Xavier, a teacher at Colégio Marista Alexander Fleming who will accompany the students during RoboParty in Portugal.

The competition

Once assembled, each team places their robot on a race track. The prototype that crosses the finish line first wins. A computer program will manage the entire challenge, from team registration to the presentation of results. The competitors also participated in a “dance test”, a challenge to teamwork and creativity.

“Several teams have to work together to decorate their robots and create a robotic choreography for a song according to the theme they define. The jury will decide according to creativity and the best performance on stage”, explains the teacher.
