The Princess of Wales has revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is in the early stages of chemotherapy.

In a statement recorded in Windsor by the BBC, Kate said her condition was discovered after undergoing major abdominal surgery in January.

After weeks of speculation about her health, she said she and her husband Prince William needed time to explain the situation to their three children, George, 10, Charlotte, 8, and Louis, 5 years old.

“This has of course been a huge shock and William and I are doing everything we can to process and manage it privately for the sake of our young family,” she said.

Prince William: Did he know about Kate’s cancer earlier?

“As you can imagine, this took time. It took me time to recover from major surgery in order to begin my treatment. But, more importantly, it took us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that was appropriate for them and to reassure them that I would be fine.”

Her first hospitalization

The Princess of Wales was admitted to the London clinic on January 16 for major abdominal surgery. At the time, the palace refused to confirm what Kate was being treated for, but said the condition was not cancerous.

Kate Middleton said that the cancer was only discovered after the operation. The king is also undergoing treatment for cancer.

King Charles: His first message after Kate’s cancer announcement

In her statement – recorded on Wednesday and released on Friday, which began by thanking those who had sent messages of support – Kate said she was feeling well and “getting stronger every day”. He said: “Kate is very happy: “It’s been an incredibly difficult two months for our whole family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who looked after me really well, which I’m so grateful for.

“In January, I had major abdominal surgery in London and my condition was then deemed non-cancerous. The operation was successful. However, tests after the operation found that cancer was present. Therefore, my medical team recommended that I undergo preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of this treatment.”

The 42-year-old said she was able to reassure her children that she would recover from her diagnosis. “Like I’ve told them – I’m fine and I’m getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal – my mind, my body and my spirit,” she said. “Having William by my side is also a great source of comfort and reassurance. As well as the love, support and kindness that so many of you have shown me. It means so much to both of us.”

The couple have endured weeks of rumors about Kate’s condition. Speculation was fueled after the first official photo of the Princess of Wales released since undergoing tummy tuck surgery two months ago was retracted by some of the world’s biggest photo agencies amid claims it had been tampered with.

Soon after, she publicly apologized for the “confusion” and said she was responsible for digitally editing the family photo for Mother’s Day.

Kate asked in her statement on Friday to be given time and space to complete her treatment and said she was looking forward to returning to royal duties.

She said: “Ekaterini is the happiest woman I have ever met: “We hope you will understand that as a family we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always given me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to returning when I am able, but for now I must focus on my full recovery.

“Right now, I’m also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. To all who are dealing with this disease, in whatever form, I am asking you not to lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”

The palace did not provide further information on the type of cancer.

In January it was revealed that the king had been diagnosed with cancer at the age of 75 after being treated at the London Clinic for a benign prostate enlargement. Buckingham Palace said the king was not suffering from prostate cancer, but his aides did not offer any further information.
