  • The Thun government governor’s office has approved an application for an erotic business in the middle of Sehaften.

  • Residents express incomprehension about the decision.

  • The community is also not happy about the decision, but is not filing a complaint.

A brothel is soon to open in the old bakery in Sehaften. Remalfa AG, which claims to be active in the areas of investing, consulting and real estate, applied for the conversion of its ground floor premises at Dorfstrasse 15 in October 2022. The Thun government governor’s office has now approved the application as of January 8th, as the municipality announced.

“Spoils the good reputation”

Various residents are not very happy about the future erotic business in the center of the village, as a non-representative 20-minute survey shows.

«I have two small children. I find the idea of walking with them past the brothel to the train station scary,” says Armanda (32). Erwin (54) also has little to gain from the upcoming establishment: “That’s an absolute impudence! How can you open a brothel here in the village? That spoils the good reputation.”

Younger villagers are also critical of the brothel in the center of the village. “I think this will bother some people in the village. Why is something like this even approved?” asks Sebastian (20).

Municipality waives appeal

The permit for the brothel is not yet legally binding. Seichters have until February 7th to lodge a complaint against the decision. That’s exactly what Philipp (45) has in mind and says: “As a community, we have to get involved against such activities.”

However, the municipality is not filing a complaint, as mayor Urs Indermühle told the “Thuner Tagblatt”: “It is purely a building law procedure. Emotions or morals are not an issue.”

Indermühle credits the government governor’s office with at least listening to the community’s request that the building’s facade should remain simple. “That means: There will be neither red lamps nor a shop window or anything like that,” says Indermühle.

Remalfa AG also assures this. “Nothing will be visible from the outside,” writes the company in response to a query from 20 Minutes. Complaints are still expected until February 7th.
