Write letters to fight against the isolation of the elderly

During the confinement, Lilwen met many elderly and isolated people during her missions with the Red Cross. She began to exchange letters with Jacqueline and quickly realized the benefits of this correspondence. In addition to fighting against Jacqueline’s isolation, these letters allowed Lilwen to discover a little-known era.

Call your Jacqueline

The young girl thus decided to found the association Call your Jacqueline. It is mainly aimed at young people and offers them to write letters intended for the elderly. Lise Lemoing is a volunteer with this association and, according to her, young people have a lot to learn from their elders. As for the seniors, these correspondences also allow them to apprehend the new generations and to understand the evolutions of society.

Lise explains that it is important to update the writing so that young people can detach themselves from social networks. Each letter intended for a senior is unique and personal. It is possible to talk to the elderly about their passions, studies or recent travels. According to Lise, asking questions is also essential in order to establish a real correspondence.

Once collected, the letters are then sent to EHPADs that are part of this initiative. These little attentions can also be addressed to isolated people. For Lise, Call Your Jacqueline motivates young people to take action against the isolation of seniors. These values of sharing, solidarity and mutual aid are supported by a team of motivated students committed to preserving the memory of the elderly.
