WTA Warsaw: Swiatek comes back down to earth – rts.ch

Iga Swiatek (WTA 1) is not invincible on clay. The Polish suffered her first defeat of the year on this surface, losing in the quarter-finals in front of her home crowd in Warsaw. Crowned for the second time at Roland-Garros this spring, Iga Swiatek was beaten 6-1 1-6 6-4 by the French Caroline Garcia (45), ex-no 4 in the world.

The Pole had won her first 18 matches of the year on her favorite surface, winning three titles (Stuttgart, Rome and the French Open). This defeat is simply the 5th of the year for Iga Swiatek, who has won 48 matches – including 37 consecutively – and six trophies in 2022. She was making her comeback this week following her elimination in the 3rd round at Wimbledon, where it is already a Frenchwoman (Alizé Cornet) who had ended her fabulous series.
