WWE NXT 2.0 #49: Heatwave
Ort: WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, USA
First broadcast: August 16, 2022

Today’s edition of NXT 2.0 opens with a video pack annotated by Paul Heyman covering this week’s matches. Vic Joseph and Wade Barrett greet us in the hall before the first of three title matches begins.

1. Match
NXT North American Championship
Singles Match
Carmelo Hayes (w/ Trick Williams) (c) defeated Giovanni Vinci via pin after a hurricanrana.
Match time: 11:59
– After an intervention, Trick Williams had to take Vinci’s Elevated Sitout Powerbomb. The same should happen to Hayes, but he was able to counter Vinci and roll in.

Toxic Attraction arrive and meet NXT Champion Bron Breakker in the parking lot. Both Breakker and Rose are sure to leave the hall with their gold again today.

Julius Creed studied the recordings and found what he was looking for. He would like to speak to the audience immediately about what he found scandalous during his research. With Brutus Creed, Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp at his side, he makes his way down the hallways.

Mr. Stone and his protégé Von Wagner declare in a video package that no one will survive in his jungle.

NXT Tag Team Champions The Creed Brothers, Roderick Strong and Damon Kemp now enter the ring. They first explain that less than a year ago they took the opportunity to be coached by a former NXT champion. But now he heard that a certain person was bothered by the Diamond Mine and wanted to destroy it. He asks that person to show themselves… Roderick Strong! Strong can’t believe his ears and asks Julius what got into him, after all he brought the Creeds to NXT because he saw something special in them. He was sure they could go far with his coaching, because coaching was something he wasn’t offered at the time. Brutus asks his brother if he is sure about his accusations, which he confirms before Brutus backs his brother up. Julius is now uploading video footage of Tony D’Angelo tapping the mat during the 8-man tag team match, which is said to have been the signal for Strong to “accidentally” hit Julius with the jumping knee strike, as D’Angelo was able to free himself from the grip. Strong, cornered by the Creeds and Kemp, vehemently denies the allegations before demanding that the whole issue be settled once and for all. He can’t go any further with his suggestion, however, because suddenly the Creeds and Kemp are attacked from behind by three men. These are Wolfgang and Joe & Mark Coffey, who previously made NXT UK unsafe as Gallus. The three first take out the Creeds and Kemp before Roderick Strong also gets a beating. The three newcomers enjoy their work and triumph over the deactivated Diamond Mine, which is very similar to Apollo Crews’ vision.

McKenzie Mitchell welcomes Roxanne Perez, who is about to take on her former best friend, Cora Jade. She says she’s more nervous than ever. Jade provoked all of this, and now she wants to clarify this in the ring.

2. Match
Singles Match
Cora Jade defeated Roxanne Perez via pin after a DDT on the kendo stick.
Match time: 11:41
– Before the finish, Perez hesitated to use the kendo stick she got her hands on. Throwing him aside, Jade took the moment to strike.

NXT UK Tag Team Champions Brooks Jensen, Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley stand by McKenzie Mitchell. Gallus, accompanied by a formidable security presence, arrive and make it clear that the NXT UK Tag Team Titles don’t belong here, let alone in the hands of Jensen and Briggs. The champions challenge the Brits to a title match next week, which they promptly accept before a brawl threatens to break out. However, the security intervenes in time and can prevent worse.

A Flashback deals with the feud between the D’Angelo Family and the Legado Del Fantasma.

Mandy Rose, alongside Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne, gears up for tonight’s title match. Bron Breakker is also warming up and is visited by Apollo Crews.

3. Match
Street Fight – Freedom for Legado Del Fantasma vs. Santos Escobar must leave NXT forever
Tony D’Angelo (w/ The D’Angelo Family: Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo) defeated Santos Escobar (w/ Legado Del Fantasma: Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro & Elektra Lopez) via pin after a crowbar hit.
Match time: 12:45
– As was to be expected, all companions got involved and supported their don or jefe.

Indi Hartwell congratulates Kayden Carter and Katana Chance on winning the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship. She states that she misses competing in a tag team when she is handed a letter, prompting the KC² to leave the area. Indi pulls the paper out of the envelope and on the back of the letter we see a drawing of a heart and the inscription “InDex Forever”. Indi is almost overjoyed when suddenly Blair Davenport, known from NXT UK, steps into the picture and takes over the letter. She smiles a little at what might be on the sheet before Indi confronts her about who the Brit thinks she is. She introduces herself and explains that her goal is the NXT Women’s Championship before ripping the letter, including the heart, neatly and in half.

A video package deals with the previous feud between Tiffany Stratton and Wendy Choo. The two will face off in a Lights Out Match next week. The light in the hall will be darker than usual, and everything will be allowed during the match.

4. Match
NXT Women’s Championship
Singles Match
Mandy Rose (w/ Toxic Attraction: Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) (c) defeated Zoey Stark via pin after the Bicycle Knee Strike.
Match time: 11:25
– After one of their interventions was noticed by the referee, Dolin and Jayne were dismissed from the hall. Nikkita Lyons came out to implement the referee’s orders.
– Before the finish, Rose took off her opponent’s knee brace and put it on herself before letting her finisher follow.

“The Super Diva” Quincy Elliott takes a seat in front of the camera in a Bratz shirt. He will debut in NXT 2.0 soon.

McKenzie Mitchell now welcomes Grayson Waller for an interview, who directly slams Apollo Crews for stealing spots on the card and would also like to hijack Mitchell’s job. Waller promises his own talk show called The Grayson Waller Effect next week, where the real questions will be asked and answered. His guest during the first edition: Apollo Crews!

5. Match
NXT Championship
Singles Match
Bron Breakker (c) defeated JD McDonagh via pin after the Military Press Powerslam.
Match time: 13:17
– After the second spear in a row, McDonagh got up again and was bleeding from the mouth. A third spear and the Military Press Powerslam followed to end the match.

The NXT UK takeover continues as Tyler Bate’s music plays seconds after Breakkers triumph and the reigning (or soon-to-be-winning, NXT UK issue won’t air for another two weeks) NXT UK Champion makes his way in The ring. He confronts Bron Breakker face to face and raises his title belt in the air. Breakker does the same with his gold, and the two champions conclude tonight’s NXT “Heatwave” special.
