Launched globally as the most powerful smartphone in the entire Xiaomi catalogue, the new Xiaomi 13 Ultra arrived at the TudoCelular group recently. In this quick hands-on, we’ll explore its hardware set and share our first impressions of this top-of-the-line device.
With a highly flashy design, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has many good points ranging from the use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, through the 2K AMOLED LTPO display and reaching the rear set of Leica-certified cameras.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is not a compact smartphone. Far from it. Still, we have a beautiful set built in metal, with the highlight being the rear camera module.
Circled by a golden ring, inside it we have the four cameras, the LED flash and of course the Leica brand. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is also a thick smartphone and a little heavy with its 227 grams, but all this is compensated by the material used on the back, which is a higher quality synthetic leather than what we had on the previous model.
The front has a display with few edges and with Gorilla Glass Victus protection, while there are power buttons on the right side and a USB-C port at the bottom next to the sound output.
Xiaomi 13 Ultra also supports two SIM chips in nano format and on the top deliver extra audio output for loud and good quality stereo sound.
Finally, the device brings in its box a fast charger, in addition to cables and manuals. That is, a good set that is within the expected range for Xiaomi standards.
Screen and Hardware
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is a smartphone that has a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED screen developed by TCL. This panel offers 2K resolution and supports content with a rate ranging from 1 to up to 120 Hz.
A very important highlight, which was used by Xiaomi in the presentation of the device, is the maximum brightness that can reach 2,600 nits.
In practice we have not yet confirmed this number, but this results in a very bright panel that can be used easily in very bright environments, including even direct sunlight.
Another important point about the display involves the good color fidelity and the very good white balance, but of course you can easily make adjustments to the option you find best within the software.
Regarding the chipset, we have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 here on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. As we know, it is currently the maximum performance you can get in the Android universe.
In the unit we received we have 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. This makes this set highly powerful and able to run any game on the Play Store without any hiccups.
In the field of 5G connectivity, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is prepared for all networks available in Europe and also in Brazil.
Some extras of this smartphone obviously include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC for proximity payments and an infrared sensor.
Closing this topic, let’s talk about the 5,000 mAh battery. She manages to easily reach the end of the day, even in a heavier routine of games and photo captures.

Software
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra was launched with native Android 13 and MIUI 14. However, what really draws attention is that the device has much more optimized software than other smartphones from the Chinese manufacturer.
This shows that the company knows how to make MIUI much more fluid, but it is clear that it probably spent more time refining its interface for this device.
In everyday life, all transitions are smooth, the cell phone is extremely fast and you can do any activity without having too many problems.
The interface also allows duplicating applications, features themes that can completely change the system and has some features that compete with those native to Android itself.
That is, something already expected when we talk about software and Xiaomi. In any case, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a software experience worthy of a high-end cell phone.
cameras
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra was announced as a cameraphone. That is, its great focus is on the rear set. The smartphone has a 50-megapixel main camera with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor, which has optical stabilization and a variable aperture of f/1.9 and f/4.
The secondary sensor also has 50 megapixels and is an ultrawide with autofocus, while the telephoto lens maintains the 50 megapixels and brings optical stabilization with a 3.2 times zoom.
Finally, there is still a periscope lens of more than 50 megapixels to offer zoom of up to 5 times. The first big highlight of this set of rear lenses is uniformity.
As all sensors are 50 megapixels, you won’t notice any stark differences in photo quality. Even more so when we take into account that three of the four sensors are the same Sony IMX858.
In everyday life, all sensors compress pixels to deliver 12.5 megapixel photos and you will only get 50 megapixels if you activate a specific mode in the camera software.
In photos taken during the day, any of the four cameras will deliver beautiful images, with good color fidelity and a wide range of details. Of course, the ultrawide lens tends to distort the edges of the photo a bit, but this is to be expected given the nature of the sensor.
Another relevant point is that the periscope camera delivers zoomed images that still maintain details to the point that the final photo has the same quality as an image taken with the main sensor.
The background blur effect is also great with the use of these sensors, and you can even activate the Pro mode to record images in RAW format.
This allows recording a wide range of information that can be enhanced or manipulated via post processing. Speaking of Pro mode, it should be noted that with it you can change a series of parameters to take pictures your way.
It takes a little knowledge, of course. But it is an interesting game and one that will certainly be the “baby” of photography lovers.
In night photos, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra also manages to record good details, but if you have the knowledge and know how to work in Pro mode, it will be possible to get even more realistic images with the main camera.
In the other sensors, there is obviously a loss of quality, but even so, we have a result within the acceptable range.
When recording videos, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra can record in 4K at 60 fps and 8K at 24 fps.
The results are good, optical stabilization works well and audio capture is also within expectations. Finally, the front camera is 32 megapixels and brings “ok” quality to the segment.
First impressions and price
Sold in Europe in a single variant with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra costs 1,500 euros. That is, we are talking about approximately R$ 7,800.
Regardless of the price, this is indeed one of the best smartphones in the top-of-the-line category in 2023. The technical sheet brings the most powerful chipset from Qualcomm.
As for the software, here we have a MIUI that is much more optimized than that found in other smartphones of the brand, and the rear set of cameras pleases for delivering good images within an interesting standardization.
It is also notable that Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica has matured a lot in just one year and this is a positive thing for the market. So yes. The Xiaomi 13 Ultra has everything to compete on an equal footing with the Galaxy S23 Ultra and other Android flagships.
However, I still believe that Xiaomi will hardly sell 13 Ultra officially here in Brazil. I say this mainly because of its pricing policy, something that made the Xiaomi 13 Lite model reach the national market for R$ 5 thousand.
Therefore, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra will be a smartphone for enthusiasts and fans of the brand. At least here in Brazil.
