Yellow Alert for Slippery Conditions in Belgian Ardennes: IRM Forecast

2023-11-26 21:48:40

The Royal Meteorological Institute (IRM) issued a new yellow alert on Sunday for slippery conditions in the provinces of Liège, Namur and Luxembourg. At the end of the night, Monday and during the night from Monday to Tuesday, an active disturbance will cause further snowfall in the Ardennes, above approximately 300 m.

During the day on Monday, the rain-snow limit will gradually rise and it will only snow above 550 m. This could lead to an accumulation of 5 to 10 cm of snow in less than 24 hours, mainly above 400-500 m. At lower altitudes, it will be more like 1 to 5 cm.

At the end of the day and Monday evening, it will also rain temporarily on the Ardennes peaks, but in the second part of the night, the rain-snow limit will gradually decrease. Some snowfall in the Ardennes, with a probable accumulation of a few centimeters until Tuesday morning, is also expected. Some slush will also become possible down to low altitudes in the northeastern half of the country.
